HAPPY HALF BIRTHDAY

Today Amelia is 6 months old! I can't believe where the time has gone - it certainly does fly by.

I am pleased to announce that she has also recovered from her nasty croup incident, we're all healthy & ready for our camping trip on the 5th (can't wait!).

FORMULA FOOD - ROUND 10

GERMANY = SAUERBRATEN

We had this last night (Monday) as, to be honest, we haven't been in all weekend! But it was well worth the wait.
Conclusion: You can't just decide to have Sauerbraten as it takes a few days to prepare, it doesn't look very pretty but it tastes amazing.
Would I make it again? Yes, you could even pass it off for a family Sunday lunch.

Sauerbraten:
480 ml red wine, 240 ml red wine vinegar, 120 ml water, 2 onions cut into wedges, leaves from a bunch of celery, 1tsp salt, 1tsp sugar, 2 tsp mustard seeds, freshly grated nutmeg, 5 cloves, 1 tsp lightly crushed black peppercorns, 4 sprigs parsley, 2 bay leaves, 1kg beef topside joint, 2 tbsp veg. oil, 50g crushed Gingernuts.

1. Place everything apart from beef, oil & biscuits in a large bowl & mix well. Now add beef, cover & leave for 3 days, turning several times.

2. Remove meat from marinade (reserving the marinade) & pat dry on kitchen paper, then season.

3. Heat oil in a large saucepan & brown beef on all sides. Add the marinade, bring to boil & simmer gently for 3 hours.

4. Remove beef & strain cooking liquor into a jug. Pour 120 ml into a smaller pan & bring to the boil. Then add the crushed Gingernuts & the rest of the liquor a little at a time, stirring constantly.

5. Continue boiling & stirring until the gravy has thickened.

6. Serve the sliced beef & gravy with potatoes & vegetables of your choice.

MORE AMELIA NEWS

On Friday she rolled over for the first time! Now if you put her on our bed, she rolls over & over right to the edge! Ahh!

IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO...

... start another weeks starvation style diet with last night's leftover Chinese for breakfast!

Thank heavens for my "suck your fat in" slip - it turns a wobbly post baby size 16 body into a nice toned size 14! So, if I buy the next size down & wear that on top, I will be a lovely size 10 & all will be well!!! (apart from turning purple).

I always remember Tracy saying (many years ago), we all spend a certain amount of time worrying about something. Her's was money & if she didn't worry about money, she would start worrying about her & Dan's health, so she'd rather worry about money.

I've always loved that thought & tell it to loads of friends when they worry about things. So, I'm quite happy to moan about being fat!
Anyway thin's overrated - eat a pie skinny!

TWO LITTLE TEETH

Hooray for Amelia! Yesterday she got her 1st tooth - it's on the bottom, the front left hand side one. Then this morning we found its partner, so now she has her 2 front teeth on the bottom -aahhh! She's still the smiliest baby in the land, she just has a rosy red cheek & is even more dribbley! She's so lovely - well done Amelia :)

FORMULA FOOD - ROUND 9

BRITAIN = CONCESSION STANDS!

We could have stayed at home & had roast beef, but no, we went to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix & ate like pigs from Great British concession stands instead!
Conclusion: I just want some vegetables!
Would I do it again? Yes, just not until next year though!

Concession stands (or a heart attack in a polystyrene box!):
3 sausage baguettes, 1 bacon baguette, 3 1/4lb cheese burgers, 1 1/2lb cheese burger, 3 portions of chips, 1 beef sandwich, 1 steak sandwich, 1 portion of potato wedges & curry sauce, 2 breakfast baguettes, 2 bags of 6 doughnuts, 2 chicken tikka massala with rice & naan bread & 1 meal in the hotel restaurant.

1. Divide between 3 days & 2 fat bastards.

2.Feel crap & bloated for another week.

DID YOU SEE US?...WE WERE ON TELLY!

On Sunday evening, Christian & I arrived home from our fantastic 3 days away at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. We had a brilliant time, although I really missed my babies!

On Friday morning at 7am, we dropped the girls off with Christian's mum & headed straight for Silverstone - having experienced long traffic delays last year, we knew that being very early was the key. Christian had bought us the very best seats available for the Sunday race - so we could sit where ever we wanted to on the Friday & Saturday for practicing & qualifying. So we did our usual walk round the whole circuit, sitting in all the grandstands, making sure our seats were the best - & they were!! We watched the F1 practices & some GP2 & Porsche stuff too, bought a load of presents(for us & the girls!) & headed off to find the hotel & more importantly the hotel bar.

Saturday was a bit of a lie in - 6am to be exact! Oh well, rather be waiting at the track than stuck in traffic! Christian listened to me this time & we got to park in the car park in front of the entrance, rather than in the back of some field - Mummy knows best!! & we had a lovely day (if not a bit wet & cold) watching the qualifying. The only slight blip was when I found a massive purple DVT vein on my leg & I was going to die before the day was out &..... it was a bruise from climbing over the seats on Friday!

Sunday was the best ever, I'm sure Christian will write about it in much more detail here. Our seats were fantastic - the pit straight grandstand - the covered bit of course (thankfully as it started to rain at about 8am & stopped 5 mins before the race finished!). We got to watch all the race build up & spotted all the celebs walking around the grid too. The race was amazing - wet races are my favourite as they are so action packed & this one didn't fail to please! Sitting opposite the pits meant that I could gather what was going on without a commentary by reading the drivers pit boards - they are really very useful! As Lewis started his last lap everyone was going mad - cheering & blowing air horns - so you can only imagine how loud it got when he actually won, very exciting. We watched all the podium presentations, then came home.

After we had put the children to bed, we watched the race again! When the camera panned over our grandstand, we paused it & saw ourselves on telly! Did you see us? We were those 2 faces behind the red & yellow blobs of the people sat in front of us!
What a brilliant weekend & such a shame there will only be 1 more at Silverstone - we will be there of course - same seats I hope Christian!

CHOCOLATE FUDGE DELIGHT

As mentioned in a previous post, I have been baking this week. Here is the chocolate fudge cock I made for a friend's hen night. Christian was disappointed that it wasn't pink, but the hen is a chocoholic & anyway brown willies are much bigger than pink (years of experience talking now!), so you can cut more slices!

While I was icing this cake, it took me back 6 years to my hen night - when that white stretch limo picked me up, with a sea of half cut friends faces inside & took me to the Moathouse for a Bee Gees tribute band night! Ahh what a naff, drunken time was had - fantastic, it has to be done!
